the cause

Accelerate the world’s most promising prostate cancer research for better treatments and cures.

The catalyst for creating the event is based on No Shave November, an annual event involving the growing of mustaches to raise awareness of men’s health issues such as prostate cancer. The idea is similar to wearing a pink ribbon for breast cancer awareness except a mustache is grown to show your support instead. Those who can’t, or choose not to grow a mustache, simply support the cause by spreading the word and encouraging others to do the same.

the event

The actual running/walking is more of a suggestion than a requirement at this event so please don’t be discouraged by the name. The idea is to spread awareness and raise funds for prostate cancer research. Those who do decide to run will receive a finisher medal and a beer token from Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing (where the run/walk starts and finishes). We will also provide T-Shirts for donations of $35 or more. The top male and female finishers in each distance will have their names eternally etched into the perpetual plaque proudly displayed in the brewery.

We’ve had plenty of friends and family come out to support the runners and mustache growers and simply enjoy some good local food and beverage. We have balloons and fake mustaches for the kids so the entire family is welcome.

Live music this year will be played by Moshe V Music so come on down and enjoy the tunes and vibe. Elias from Waves & Fades Barbershop is coming out to hook up straight razor shaves after the race for those of you who can't wait to get that fuzzy caterpillar off of your upper lip.

The event will be held on Saturday, November 17th with the kids 1k starting at 11:45am and the 5k/10k walk/run starting at noon. The start/finish is in the Swift Street Courtyard in front of Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing. Registration opens at 10am where you can pickup your t-shirt and bib. The brewery opens at 10am and local favorite Kelly’s Bakery is open at 7am so feel free to come by early.

I love that it is super laid back. It makes everyone feel like they are a part of something really good. I will run every year! Woo!
Just registered for the run, and I’m psyched to get out there again. I’m bringing about 4-5 more buddies that haven’t done the race before, so hopefully we can get even more runners than last year!

I’m growing my stache for your dash. I plan on walking the 10k route with my wife Julie.

$4,851 raised in 2017

Thank you so much for the support last year. Our goal this year is $6,000.

prostate cancer foundation

The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) is the world's leading philanthropic organization funding and accelerating prostate cancer research. Founded in 1993, PCF has raised nearly $660 million and provided funding to more than 2,000 research programs at nearly 200 cancer centers and universities. The PCF global research enterprise now extends to 19 countries. PCF advocates for greater awareness of prostate cancer and more efficient investment of governmental research funds for transformational cancer research. Its efforts have helped produce a 20-fold increase in government funding for prostate cancer.

About Me

I've lived in Santa Cruz County just about my entire life but in 2011 I decided to live abroad, for a year, in Gold Coast, Australia. While there I was introduced to the No-Shave November movement and I have since grown, albeit pathetically, a mustache every year to support the cause. I began organizing fundraisers when I moved back the states and in 2013 kicked off the first Santa Cruz Stache Dash 5k/10k. I plan on living in Santa Cruz County, with my wife Jenni and daughters Teagan and Makenna, for a very long time. We hope that we can keep growing this event each year in order to provide continuous funds and support for the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
